Andy Baio, the Former Kickstarter CTO did a great discovery recently: a fast way to see tweets from your Twitter timeline from exactly 10 years ago. Yes, those are 10 years ago tweets from the people you are following at present. While we definitely won’t get to see the similar type of tweets. Twitter was more innocent back then when compared to Twitter at present.
Try it here. (It doesn’t matter if you didn’t have an account a decade ago.)
It’s a funny way to see Twitter which has changed, in terms of the features and also in the actual dialogue of users. In my experience, it seems more driven by status update tweets when compared to the discussions or dialogues and precious little matter from the media. You can go to settings and can change the language, date etc., to explore path old Twitter. Nowadays things are, with the opposite opinions and the armies of trolls. The decade back Twitter also has good benefits. The mix is quiet with likes and fewer retweets than the current time Twitter had not yet introduced the retweets which are automatic, but people are doing it still manually and no nested replies or link previews, while once there are major social media services such as TwitPic, TinyURL etc.,
It’s good to remember though we have upgraded technology, for old is gold. Long tweets of 280 characters, and a big list of people in the world to follow. And now try Baio’s trick for yourself (it works even if you didn’t have a Twitter account decade ago)
